Internship PBK Modelling and High-Throughput NGRA (m/f/d)
Interested? Then we are looking forward to receiving your application, including a CV and a short motivation statement.
Internship PBK Modelling and High-Throughput NGRA of Environmental Compounds
We are looking for a motivated scientist to join our modelling team. You'll contribute to an exciting project, developing and applying physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models using a high-throughput framework to support next-generation risk assessment (NGRA) of environmental chemicals (e.g. pesticides, environmental contaminants, food contact materials etc).
The internship is suited to a master student or early-career scientist with a strong interest in computational toxicology and toxicokinetics, in vitro to in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE) and the use of new approach methodologies (NAMs) in chemical safety assessment.
A key requirement for this role is good working knowledge of R programming language. You will work with an existing high-throughput modelling and data-analysis pipeline developed in R, supporting its application to environmental compounds, by organizing input datasets, running pipeline components, checking outputs, generating summaries, and interpretating model results.
Key responsibilities
The intern may support activities such as:
Literature review and data extraction for environmental compounds
Collection and curation of physicochemical and toxicokinetic/ADME data for PBK model parameterization and evaluation
Data cleaning, organisation, analysis, and visualisation in R
Application of high-throughput PBK or toxicokinetic modelling workflows
IVIVE calculations
Preparation of technical summaries, figures, tables, and project documentation
Contribution to internal scientific discussions and reporting
Candidate profile
We are looking for an organised, curious, and detail-oriented candidate with a strong interest in computational approaches to chemical safety assessment.
The candidate should have:
MSc in toxicology, pharmacology, environmental science, computational biology, or a related field (recently completed or about to complete)
Good R knowledge and programming skills
Basic understanding of PBK modelling principles and toxicokinetics
Familiarity with NGRA concepts, IVIVE, or high-throughput screening is a strong plus
A detail-oriented mindset and ability to work independently as well as in a team
Prior experience with PBK/PBPK modelling, IVIVE, toxicokinetics, or NGRA is a plus but not essential. Familiarity with packages or tools for modelling, data analysis, and visualisation in R is most important.
